Awesome Stuff, All the Time
Traveling
OVERVIEW
Transform overland travel from narration to immersive play. Assign each player a travel role, and resolve challenges dynamically using role-based skill checks. Travel becomes a phase of strategy, survival, and player-driven engagement.
SETUP PHASE (Before the Journey)
1. State the Situation
Inform the party:
- Destination
- Terrain type (forest, desert, voidfield, etc.)
- Estimated travel duration
- Potential environmental threats
2. Assign Roles
Each player selects one of the following (duplicates allowed):
| Role | Core Duty |
|---|---|
| Navigator | Guides route, avoids hazards |
| Scout | Spots threats, resources, secrets |
| Defender | Guards against immediate danger |
| Utility | Fixes gear, solves misc. issues |
3. Establish Marching Order
- Who leads, follows, guards rear
- Influences ambushes & surprise
4. Track Resources (Optional but Epic)
- Rations, water, spell slots, fuel, mounts
- Enables survival pressure or downtime trade-offs
EXECUTION PHASE (During the Journey)
